2-Day Marrakech to Zagora Desert Tour

2 Days · 1 Nights🚗 Private Tour📍 Marrakech → Zagora Sahara📅 Available Year-round

Tour Overview

The 2 day Marrakech to Zagora desert tour is Morocco's shortest Sahara experience from Marrakech — a private two-day circuit crossing the High Atlas, visiting the UNESCO ksar of Ait Benhaddou, descending through the magnificent Draa Valley date palm groves, and reaching the desert edge at Zagora for a camel trek and desert camp night. Zagora requires less driving than Merzouga and is ideal for travellers with limited time who still want a genuine desert experience within a Marrakech holiday.

Tour Highlights

  • Ait Benhaddou UNESCO World Heritage ksar
  • Tizi n'Tichka High Atlas mountain crossing

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day1

Day 1

Marrakech → Ait Benhaddou → Draa Valley → Zagora

Early pickup in Marrakech. Cross the High Atlas via Tizi n'Tichka at 2,260 metres. Stop at Ait Benhaddou: the UNESCO World Heritage ksar of pisé kasbahs, film location for Gladiator, Game of Thrones, and numerous other productions. Cross the Tizi n'Tinifift pass into the Draa Valley — Morocco's longest river valley, a 200-kilometre thread of date palm plantations and ancient ksars stretching south toward the Sahara. Arrive at Zagora as the afternoon light softens the desert landscape. Mount your camel for the sunset trek to your desert camp.

Day 2

Zagora Sunrise → Draa Valley → Ait Benhaddou → Marrakech

Wake for the desert sunrise — quieter and less touristed than Erg Chebbi, the Zagora desert rewards early risers. After breakfast, ride back to the village and drive north through the Draa Valley in the morning light — the kasbahs and palmeries look different on the return. Optional stop at Ait Benhaddou to photograph it in warm morning amber light. Cross back over the Tizi n'Tichka and arrive in Marrakech by mid-afternoon.
