Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival in Fez and Medina Introduction
Arrive in Fez and dive straight into Fez el-Bali β the world's largest car-free urban area and a UNESCO World Heritage site. With a local licensed guide, visit Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque and University (founded 859 AD, the world's oldest continuously operating university), the exquisitely decorated Bou Inania Madrasa with its carved cedarwood and zellige tilework, and the famous Chouara Tanneries, where leather has been dyed in honeycomb stone vats for centuries using the same methods.
Day 2
Full-Day Fez Medina Exploration
Spend a second day deep in Fez's medina with your local guide. Visit the Mellah β the historic Jewish Quarter, with its distinctive wood-balconied architecture β the golden brass gates of the Royal Palace (Dar el-Makhzen), the Blue Gate (Bab Boujloud), the Najjarine Fountain and woodworking museum, and the Mausoleum of Moulay Idriss II, founder of Fez and venerated saint. Browse artisan cooperatives producing leather, copper, and zellige β crafts unchanged over a thousand years.
Day 3
Fez to Meknes and Volubilis
Travel to Meknes, one of Morocco's four imperial cities. Stand before the monumental Bab Mansour β considered the finest ceremonial gateway in North Africa β and visit the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, the 17th-century sultan who built Meknes to rival Versailles with its vast granaries, royal stables for 12,000 horses, and 40 km of enclosing walls. Drive to Volubilis, Morocco's best-preserved Roman site and a UNESCO World Heritage landmark, where intact mosaic floors, a triumphal arch, and ancient columns survive remarkably intact.
Day 4
Meknes to Rabat
Continue to Rabat, Morocco's elegant capital on the Atlantic coast. Visit the Hassan Tower β the unfinished 12th-century minaret of what would have been the world's largest mosque β and the adjacent Mausoleum of Mohammed V, Morocco's finest example of modern Moroccan architecture. Explore the Bab Chellah, the medieval gate leading to Roman and medieval Chellah ruins, and the 17th-century Oudaya Kasbah with its blue-and-white alleys and panoramic views over the Bou Regreg estuary.
Day 5
Rabat to Casablanca
Drive south to Casablanca and visit the Hassan II Mosque, one of the world's largest mosques and an extraordinary masterpiece of contemporary Moroccan craftsmanship. Built partially over the Atlantic Ocean, the mosque's 210-metre minaret is the world's tallest religious structure, and its retractable glass roof allows sunlight to illuminate the vast marble interior. Marvel at the hand-carved stucco, zellige tilework, and cedar woodwork produced by 10,000 Moroccan artisans over six years.
Day 6
Casablanca to Marrakech
Travel to Marrakech and explore the UNESCO-listed medina in the afternoon. Visit the Majorelle Garden with its cobalt-blue buildings and exotic collection of cacti and palms. As dusk falls, the legendary Jemaa el-Fna square comes alive with a theatrical assembly of snake charmers, acrobats, storytellers, Gnaoua musicians, and food vendors with steaming tagines and fresh-squeezed orange juice β a spectacle that has animated the square for a thousand years.
Day 7
Full-Day Marrakech Exploration
Begin with the 12th-century Koutoubia Mosque β Marrakech's tallest landmark and architectural inspiration for the Giralda in Seville, Spain. Visit the 19th-century Bahia Palace, a 160-room complex of ornate courtyards, painted cedar ceilings, and fountained gardens showcasing the finest Moroccan palace craftsmanship. Explore the Saadian Tombs β a 16th-century royal necropolis sealed for 300 years and only rediscovered in 1917. Navigate the labyrinthine souks before your departure transfer.
