Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day1

Day 1

Marrakech → Tizi n'Tichka → Ait Benhaddou → Ouarzazate

Morning pickup in Marrakech. Drive south across the High Atlas via Tizi n'Tichka at 2,260 metres — the road climbs through Berber mountain villages with extraordinary views in both directions from the summit. Arrive at Ait Benhaddou: a UNESCO World Heritage ksar of six interlocking pisé kasbahs on the Ounila River, film location for Gladiator, Game of Thrones, and dozens of other productions. Cross the river and climb to the summit agadir granary for panoramic views across the valley. Continue to Ouarzazate for a walk around the Taourirt Kasbah, one of the finest examples of southern Moroccan earthen architecture still inhabited by local families.

Day2

Day 2

Ouarzazate → Rose Valley → Dades Valley

Drive east from Ouarzazate through the pre-Saharan valley corridor. Stop at Kelaat M'Gouna in the Rose Valley — hundreds of thousands of Damascene rose bushes planted at altitude, their blooms processed each May into the rose water and rose attar sold in Moroccan souks year-round. Continue through the Dades Valley: 120 kilometres of mud-brick kasbahs, almond orchards, and the dramatic Monkey Fingers rock formations above the gorge. Walk the lower Dades Gorge in the late afternoon light.

Day 3

Dades Valley → Todra Gorge → Marrakech

Morning drive east to Tinghir and the Todra Gorge — walk the floor of the slot canyon where 300-metre walls of orange limestone close overhead and the cold Todra River runs at your feet, one of the most spectacular natural features in Morocco. Drive back west through Ouarzazate and over the Tizi n'Tichka — the Atlas in the afternoon light from the south is spectacular — arriving in Marrakech by early evening.
