Early morning pickup in Marrakech. Cross the High Atlas via Tizi n'Tichka at 2,260 metres — panoramic views over the Haouz Plain behind and the pre-Saharan landscape ahead. Stop at Ait Benhaddou: the UNESCO World Heritage ksar of mud-brick kasbahs above the Ounila River, used as a film location for Gladiator, Game of Thrones, and Lawrence of Arabia. Continue through Ouarzazate and into the Dades Valley — 120 kilometres of abandoned mud-brick towers, almond orchards, and spectacular Monkey Fingers rock formations.

Dades Valley → Todra Gorge → Merzouga Dunes

Morning drive through the Dades Gorge and east to the Todra Gorge — 300-metre limestone walls closing to 10 metres, the Todra River threading the base of the slot. Drive across the Tafilalet oasis basin to Merzouga as the afternoon heat lifts and the Erg Chebbi dunes glow gold. Mount your camel for a two-hour sunset trek.
