Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival in Casablanca
Arrive at Mohammed V International Airport for a private welcome. Visit the Hassan II Mosque, built partially over the Atlantic Ocean with a 210-metre minaret and retractable glass roof. Stroll the Corniche seafront boulevard for a relaxed first evening.
Day 2
Casablanca to Chefchaouen via Rabat
Drive north to Rabat for the Hassan Tower, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and the Oudaya Kasbah with panoramic views. Continue north into the Rif Mountains to Chefchaouen, the Blue Pearl of Morocco.
Day 3
Chefchaouen to Fez via Volubilis and Meknes
Explore Chefchaouen before driving south to Volubilis, Morocco's finest Roman site with intact mosaic floors and a triumphal arch. Visit Meknes and the monumental Bab Mansour gateway before arriving in Fez.
Day 4
Full Day in Fez Medina
A full day in Fez el-Bali with a local guide: Al-Qarawiyyin University, Bou Inania Madrasa, Chouara Tanneries, Royal Palace gates, and the Mellah Jewish Quarter.
Day 5
Fez to Merzouga via Middle Atlas
Travel south through Ifrane and Azrou cedar forest, descend through the Ziz Gorges and Ziz Valley. Arrive in Merzouga and mount your camel at sunset for a trek into the Erg Chebbi dunes to your luxury camp.
Day 6
Full Sahara Day in Merzouga
Rise before dawn for the Sahara sunrise. Explore by 4x4, visit Khamlia for Gnaoua music, meet nomadic Berber families for mint tea and cultural exchange. Optional sandboarding or quad biking on the dunes.
Day 7
Merzouga to Dades via Todra Gorge
Travel west to Todra Gorge where 300-metre limestone walls rise sheer above a cool river. Walk the gorge before continuing through the Dades Valley with its "Monkey Fingers" rock formations and earthen kasbahs.
Day 8
Dades to Ait Benhaddou via Rose Valley and Skoura
Depart the Dades Valley and drive west through the Rose Valley of Kalaat Mgouna β where fields of damask roses between the High Atlas and the Jebel Saghro produce 4,000 tonnes of petals annually for Chanel, Dior, and LancΓ΄me, and the annual Moussem des Roses festival each spring fills the valley with colour and fragrance. Continue through the Skoura palm oasis with its 18th-century Amridil Kasbah, still occupied by descendants of the original family for 300 years and surrounded by one of Morocco's most beautiful date palm groves. Arrive at the UNESCO World Heritage ksar of Ait Benhaddou β a 1,500-year-old fortified village of sun-dried mud-brick towers on the ancient Timbuktu-to-Marrakech caravan route, the film location for Gladiator, Game of Thrones, Lawrence of Arabia, and Babel. Explore the ancient ksar as the setting sun turns the earthen towers golden. Overnight in a guesthouse near the ksar with views over the Oued Mellah valley.
Day 9
Ait Benhaddou and High Atlas Crossing to Marrakech
Begin with an unhurried guided morning at Ait Benhaddou β the morning light is the most revealing for the ksar's extraordinary mud-brick architecture. With a local guide, cross the Oued Mellah on stepping stones to explore the six interconnected kasbahs: learn about the 1,500 years of caravan trade history and the ancient construction technique of unbaked clay, gypsum, straw, and water maintained by the families who still live here. Climb to the granary tower for panoramic views over the valley and Atlas foothills. Ascend the High Atlas via the Tizi n'Tichka Pass (2,260 m β Morocco's highest paved mountain road, engineered by the French Foreign Legion in 1936) with sweeping panoramic views over the great Atlas ranges in both directions. Descend through traditional Berber villages with flat-roofed stone homes built directly from the mountain bedrock, arriving into the Red City of Marrakech as the famous pisΓ© walls glow in the afternoon light.
Day 10
Marrakech Medina and Farewell
A guided morning in Marrakech's UNESCO-listed medina: the opulent 19th-century Bahia Palace with its 160 rooms of hand-painted cedarwood ceilings and zellige tilework, the Saadian Tombs β a 16th-century royal necropolis sealed for 300 years and only rediscovered in 1917 β and the 12th-century Koutoubia Mosque whose 70-metre Almohad minaret served as the architectural model for Seville's Giralda. Navigate the colourful specialised souks before a final farewell at the legendary Jemaa el-Fna square β the thousand-year-old communal spectacle of storytellers, Gnaoua musicians, acrobats, and food stalls recognised by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage.
