Private Day Trip from Marrakech to Atlas Mountains & Berber Villages
Tour Overview
The High Atlas Mountains rise dramatically to 4,167 metres just 60 kilometres from Marrakech's Jemaa el-Fna. In a single day you can move from the heat and noise of the Red City into a world of snow-capped peaks, terraced gardens, rushing rivers, and Berber villages where the way of life has changed little in centuries. This private day trip takes you into the heart of the High Atlas via the Ourika Valley β the most beautiful and accessible of the Atlas valleys β and includes a visit with a Berber family in their home, the kind of authentic encounter that simply doesn't happen in the city.

Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1
Marrakech β Ourika Valley β Imlil β Return
Hotel pickup at 08:30. Drive south from Marrakech through the Haouz plain as the Atlas Mountains grow larger on the horizon. Enter the Ourika Valley and follow the river south through a series of Amazigh villages β Aghbalou, Tafza, Setti Fatma β where terraced fields of barley, corn, and vegetables cling to the valley walls above walnut and almond groves. Continue to Setti Fatma for a walk to the first and most accessible of the seven waterfalls β a 20β30 minute walk through a rocky gorge alongside the river, with swimming pools beneath the falls in summer. Drive to Imlil (1,740 m) β the staging village for Mount Toubkal, where mule trains loaded with expedition supplies pass through the main square and the air is noticeably cooler than Marrakech. Visit a Berber family home for mint tea and conversation through your guide β an introduction to Amazigh domestic life, mountain agriculture, and the traditions of one of North Africa's oldest indigenous peoples. Traditional Berber lunch at a mountain restaurant with Atlas panoramas β tagine slow-cooked over charcoal, Moroccan salads, fresh-baked bread. Return to Marrakech in the late afternoon.
